What You Should Know About Buying a WiFi Card For Laptop Computers

Wi-Fi internet is becoming more commonplace. Many schools, hotels, airports, coffee shops and other businesses are offering Wi-Fi internet to their clients to make their experience at their establishments more enjoyable. Not to mention that internet access has become a vital part of the way we study, the way we work and the way we live. In today’s increasingly interconnected world, even entire cities are becoming wireless. If you want to be part of the wireless revolution, make sure that you are equipped with a Wi-Fi card for laptop computers.

A Wi-Fi card is indispensible these days. If you have it, you will be able to access internet virtually anywhere Wi-Fi is offered. Many laptop computers nowadays come with a Wi-Fi card already built in, pre-installed, and ready to connect to wireless internet. If your computer doesn’t have an internal Wi-Fi card, then you can choose to buy one and install it. There are many wireless cards available out there. Be sure to use the right one for you. There are some cards that that are in the form of USB adapters and others that go in PCMCIA slots in your laptop. If you get one like this, it is very easy to get connected. Simply place the card in the PCMCIA slot in the right direction, install the software on your computer, and your Wi-Fi should be ready to receive any wireless signal within your range. PCMCIA cards are usually more compact than USB wireless adaptors and will work better for laptops, whereas USB network adapters are more suited for desktop PCs.

When shopping for a Wi-Fi Card, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. First you need to take a good look at the wireless access point (e.g. router) that you will be using. What standard is the signal that it sends? Is it 802.11 b, 802.11g or even 802.11n? Or does it support all three? Make sure that the card that you purchase works well with these standards. Another thing to keep in mind is that not all routers and Wi-Fi cards are a good fit. Be sure to get a card that fits your router’s requirements and matches its speed, otherwise you will have to upgrade your access point. Get a Wi-Fi card that can work well with your router for the best connectivity. Also get a good quality wireless card for the best performance. Some well known wireless cards manufacturers are: Belkin, Netgear, and LINKSYS.

If your laptop is an older model and doesn’t have an internal Wi-Fi card, buying an external USB adapter or PCMCIA card is the best solution. However, there are some people who choose to get an internal wireless card and install it into their notebooks. If you choose to go this route, it is better that this is done by someone who knows what they’re doing. After putting in the card into the wireless slot on the bottom of the laptop, you will need to join the antennas to the connectors. You will then have to go to the website for your laptop manufacturer, look for the model number of the wireless card that you set up, choose your operating system and install the drivers. After this you will be able to connect to a Wi-Fi network with no problem.
